Reds left-handed reliever Bill Bray and infielder Wilson Valdez have refused outright assignments to the minor leagues, choosing to become free agents. Bray missed most of last season because of injuries, a problem throughout his seven-year career with Cincinnati. He was on the disabled list from April 24 until June 21 with a groin injury, then from July 31 through the rest of the season with a bad back. He appeared in 14 games and gave up five runs in 8 2-3 innings.
