We've seen it in other sports: teams intentionally losing games, blowing up their seasons to improve their draft status next year. Some teams do this naturally, being so bad that they almost magically plummet through the standings like a cinder block through the East River, its franchise chained to it, gasping for air until that moment of sweet release: the NFL draft.
With the NFL's new CBA all but abolishing those enormous "lottery pick" rookie contracts of the late 1990s and early 2000s, those top 10 picks in the following year's draft provide a lot more value to a club looking to get back on its feet. It's only a matter of time before the NFL makes like the NBA and NHL do and start tanking games to improve their draft status.
What follows in our awesome video debate is our list of teams that could benefit from using such a dubious strategy. NFL Lead Blogger Aaron Nagler and I present our cases for teams that really could take two steps forward in 2013 by taking one step backward this season. Check our our list in the video above and leave your thoughts in the comments below.
As always, thanks for watching.
