Austin may have been done with wrestling full time, but the WWE pulled out all the stops to keep him around. So with the entire company practically bowing down before you, what do you do?
You become the man that you already were.
When RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff began to abuse his power to the point of no return, Linda McMahon decided to step in and bring in her own version of "The Enforcer."
Her enforcer came in the form of the Texas Rattlesnake. With it came months of Stunners, months of mudhole stomping and months of beer consumption.
But in the end, Austin's shenanigans sent him packing once again. Thanks to an interfering Animal, Team Austin lost the match at Survivor Series...and in the process, Austin was sent packing...
...but not for long.
Austin returned less than two months later to become the new RAW Law: Translation, the Sheriff.
He then went on become a thorn in not just Eric Bischoff's side, but also the side of two individuals from SmackDown: SmackDown GM Paul Heyman and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
When Lesnar stuck his nose in RAW Business by causing the elimination of Bill Goldberg at the Royal Rumble, Goldberg was hellbent on getting revenge on his newest adversary.
And Stone Cold was happy to help.
Austin gave Goldberg a ticket to the following month's pay per view No Way Out, in which the main event was surprisingly enough Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.
Thanks to Goldberg's interference, Latino Heat was able to lay claim to his first and only WWE Championship.
But Brock was not too happy about the loss...and he blamed Stone Cold.
So to make things interesting, Austin was thrown in the middle of an epic battle between Goldberg and Lesnar.
The match itself, at Wrestlemania XX, was beyond a shadow of a doubt sad...but Austin fixed that problem quickly.
Following the match, a dejected Lesnar gave the two bird salute to the Madison Square Garden crowd and delivered one to Austin as well.
The result: A Stunner for Lesnar...and one for Goldberg as well.
After that WM encounter, Austin spent more time behind the scenes. He made an appearance at Wrestlemania 21: Wrestlemania goes Hollywood, in which he was a guest on Piper's Pit.
He wound up stunning an interrupting Carlito and the host of the show, recent HOF Inductee Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Austin returned at Wrestlemania 23 to be the special guest referee for the Battle of the Billionaires showdown between Vince McMahon and Donald Trump.
In the end, it was Austin who delivered three huge stunners: One to Umaga to help Team Trump get the victory, one to McMahon in an effort to get him into the chair and the final one to Donald Trump himself for...wait! Does he really need a reason for that last one?
Austin's last appearance on WWE Programming was at the 2007 Edition of Summerslam. Austin was dubbed as the special guest fill-in for the Matt Hardy-MVP Beer Drinking Contest.
And being the guy that he is, Austin started the competition with a few exercises, a couple of stretches...and a Stone Cold Stunner to the United States Champion.
One year later, Austin was called to duty again, this time to be the special referee for the Chris Jericho-Batista World Heavyweight Championship Match at Cyber Sunday.
It was Austin's RAW Law that provided the equalizer as the Animal walked out of the PPV with the gold.
Since then, no one has really seen or heard from the Texas Rattlesnake...
...That is, until now!
