As the NFL season progresses, Vegas oddsmakers get even smarter. Opportunities for value can be tough to find now that we know the Kansas City Chiefs are frauds and the Denver Broncos are a consistent favorite.
If you’re looking for value, you’ve come to the right page. While most of the Vegas fuss on Sundays is usually reserved for spreads, the over-under totals provide value plays for bettors and friendly wagerers everywhere.
But if you’re already on this page, you know all of this. Let’s get to the good stuff and find the best over- under numbers in Week 9.
Washington at Carolina - Over 46.5
Both teams have pass defenses in the bottom half of the league, so both offenses will score enough points to pass the total.
While putting the Panthers and the phrase "scoring points together" may sound ludicrous, Carolina put up 22 points on possibly the league's best defense on Chicago. Cam Newton and Co. will be fueled even more by the noise about the team's woes this season.
Meanwhile, on the other side, RGIII will continue to do RGIII things to keep this total sky high. Don't forget about Alfred Morris's contribution either.
Chicago at Tennessee - Under 43.5
Before people assume this matchup will be a Bears' blowout, I see more of a close, low-scoring affair. Tennessee has been solid thus far at home, going 2-2 against the spread and against the total.
Therefore, it's a 50-50 shot Tennessee will hold firm against the Bears. They'll be looking ahead to matchups with Houston and San Francisco rather than the one game in front of them.
This game smells like one of those eerie "Anytime in the NFL" games; the total will stay just under in a close Bears win.
Philadelphia at New Orleans - Over 52
The highest total of the week isn’t high enough, as the New Orleans defense will be the elixir for this Eagles’ offensive attack.
New Orleans is giving up over 30 points a game, while Philadelphia has the playmakers to exploit the Saints’ defensive holes, even though they haven’t put it all together in recent weeks. Michael Vick and Andy Reid will craft a smart game plan with both of their jobs on the line.
Plus, keep in mind that New Orleans likes to score and score quickly. Nobody wants to bet against that. That’s why rolling with the Saints offense and anything against their defense is a good call.
