Calgary Flames: Playoff Talk Doesn't Matter

Doug AnscombeContributor IMarch 20, 2008

It doesn't matter if the Calgary Flames make the playoffs, because if they do, they will be out in the first round—again—and it doesn't matter who they play.

This team does not know how to play 60 minutes of hockey - they lack desire, passion, grit, and heart.  This team on paper should be battling for the number-one spot in the league. Instead they are losing to teams that are already out of the playoffs and barely hanging on to the position they are in now.

When listening to them through the media, they seem to say all the right things. But when they step on the ice, Huselius, Nolan, Tanguay, and Lombardi disappear.  Phanuef takes stupid penalties, Kiprusoff lets in bad goals—shall I go on?

My belief that its not the coaching, its the players. They are so damn inconsistent, period to period—heck, shift to shift! It is maddening.

I have been a die hard Flames fan since the beginning, I like many have been through a lot of good times and bad times with this team.  You may call me a quitter, but I can not invest my emotions with this team anymore.

I would take the Flames 2004 playoff team over this team any day—heck, I would choose the Oilers even.  So much talent and promise with this team, yet they refuse to show up for 60 minutes of hockey!
