WWE Championship Not Defended at Survivor Series Is Stupid; How to Fix It

When those who missed Raw get their power back and discover what they missed―they'll probably realize they saved themselves a Monday night headache.

Teams were revealed for a traditional five on five Survivor Series match. Team CM Punk versus Team Mick Foley.

CM Punk is wrestling on his team. Mick Foley isn't wrestling on his team. Head pain number one.

Paul Heyman was put in charge of assembling a power house team for CM Punk. I'm supposed to believe he wouldn't obtain the services of his long time client Brock Lesnar to be on the team? Alberto Del Rio, who seems to never win on pay-per-views and lost the title to Punk a year ago, is on the team though. Yeah, let's take Del Rio over Lesnar. Head pain number two.

CM Punk, who as of today has been WWE Champion for 345 days, is in a pay-per-view main event where his title ISN'T DEFENDED. My head explodes.

I can forgive Mick Foley not wrestling in the match. He's supposed to be retired. He was a cheap catalyst to explain booking the match. I'm fine giving one of the five spots to a younger, active, deserving roster member.

I can forgive having Del Rio over Lesnar. The teams featured guys who are feuding with each other. It might be predictable but it's logical to have Del Rio and Orton opposing each other.

What isn't logical, what I can't forgive―the WWE Championship not being defended on pay-per-view. You're already not going to have the Intercontinental and Tag Team titles defended because those title holders are in the match as well.

The WWE Champion's gimmick has been counting days of his impressive title holding streak. He just slipped out of match with Ryback because a referee cheated. Now, we follow it up with the title safely around his waist automatically for at least another month.

Sorry to those of you who might have tickets to an upcoming WWE non-televised live event. Sorry if I just spoiled the fact CM Punk isn't going to lose his title in the highly hyped match against Ryback in some small town.

What is this match for? If CM Punk's team wins or loses, he still has the title. If Mick Foley's team wins or loses, CM Punk still has the title. Kane and Daniel Bryan are still tag team champs. Kofi Kingston still has the IC title.

What are we fighting for? Bragging Rights? Yeah, there is a reason that pay-per-view was done away with.

This should be changed.

Make the match interesting. An elimination style match where if you pin a champion, you capture that title. If CM Punk gets pinned, the person who pins him becomes WWE Champion.

The advertisement of it all has a chaotic potential and feel. Now, we know if this happens, if someone pins Kofi, it would likely be The Miz. If Kane or Bryan is pinned, it likely will be by Rhodes or Sandow. If CM Punk gets pinned, it will likely be Ryback who does the pinning.

This makes the match a super main event. Three titles in one match. Three title matches at once that essentially have legal outside interference and chaos. That is a match that highlights the need to “survive.”

If the WWE Championship doesn't get defended at Survivor Series―the next night on Raw would be exactly 365 days for CM Punk with the title.

I fear the obvious.
