What a choke job. What an embarrassment. He will never get it. He has no clutch gene.
Those remarks are only scratching the surface as to what Cowboys fans are thinking of Tony Romo today. In actuality, many have been off the Romo wagon for the past season-and-a-half, but should those fans be validated?
If you‘d asked me just last week, I would've disagreed. I would've said, "No way, you are crazy. Give Romo another chance." But he has screwed my words for the last time.
I've been one of the biggest Romo supporters from the outset, but Sunday's loss to the Giants changed everything. For me, at least. And it should for you, too.
After last night's four-interception performance, I just don't think he has much more to give to Dallas. What more can he do? He had an up-and-down game, but the more I think of it, the more it makes sense week after week.
He is what he is. Inconsistent. Romo is, and always will be, a wild card and you don't really know what you are going to get on a week-to-week basis. Early in his career, many compared him to a "Favre-type player." And he is just that.
Favre was a great player, one of the all-time greats, but late in his career his risk-taking tendencies weren't going his way anymore.
Much like what is happening to Romo.
He is taking the same risks that he's always taken. The same risks that brought some people to label him an "elite" quarterback. However, now things aren't going his way. He needs a change. Both the Cowboys and Romo need one.
This is his seventh season as a starter and he's on pace to only throw 18 touchdowns to 26 interceptions. That would be his worst season as a starter. That is not good. Definitely not good enough for the Cowboys' standard. But then again, there hasn't been much of a standard as of late—partly thanks to him.
Romo's time with the Cowboys may be up. Well, it should be after this season. I really think the New York Jets and Cowboys should swap Mark Sanchez and Romo. It only makes sense. Both have the ability to play quarterback, but just need a change of scenery.
Make it happen, Jerry.
