Buckeye football fans should feel a measure of indebtedness to the Iacono's pizza delivery guy. He called the Ohio State Buckeyes to talk about their defense. Luke Fickell and the Buckeye defense have responded.
They finally are beginning to look like an Ohio State defense.
For years, Buckeye fans have been able to hang their hats on the Ohio State defense. It seems as though no All-American defensive team is complete without a Buckeye or two assigned to it. Ohio State football has a history of great defensive teams that do not allow points or yards.
Up until last week against Purdue in the second half, defense has been awful...downright embarrassing.
This defense is not living up to the standard set. Ohio State has great individual talent, but they are not cohesive. They're not playing as a unit. So much was expected of John Simon, Nathan Williams and Johnathan Hankins.
They are beginning to live up to their billing.
What a legacy Ohio State has. Think about it. The names of defensive greats like Bill Willis, Jim Houston, Jack Tatum, Antoine Winfield, Randy Gradishar, Tom Cousineau, Chris Spielman and Pepper Johnson are forever etched in the hearts and minds of the Buckeye faithful. Mediocrity is not acceptable.
In case you didn't know it, a young man took a pizza order by phone from Fickell's wife. He presumptuously asked what was going on with Ohio State's defense. He specifically mentioned the lack of tackling ability by the OSU defense. Supposedly, Mrs. Fickell complained to the management and "Pizza Guy" was terminated from the local pizzeria.
No fear. I understand Urban is considering the young lad as a defensive consultant for the remainder of the season...OK! I am only teasing...but I will say this.
I've eaten pizza in most major U.S. cities. Columbus, Ohio has the best pizza in America!
The Buckeye Nation like their pizza, and they like "Pizza Guy" motivating their team to a 9-0 record.
