Grafite's hat-trick send Wolfsburg second in the Bundesliga

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Mar 13, 2009

Wolfsburg 4 - Schalke 3 (Bundesliga, March 13, 2009) Schalke took the lead through a brilliant strike on the volley from Heiko Westermann after nine minutes. But Wolfsburg have been on great form of late and the soon drew level when Grafite won and then converted a 25th minute penalty. The turnaround was complete just before the break after serial-goalscorer Edin Dzeko again got himself on the scoresheet after great work from Grafite down the right. With 15 minutes remaining Grafite opened up a two-goal cushion for Wolfsburg only for Jermaine Jones to pull a goal back for the visitors two minutes later. But the game was killed off five minutes from time as Grafite claimed his hat-trick, despite being momentarily threatened by Kevin Kuranyiโ€™s third for Schalke in injury time, to send Wolfsburg up to the dizzy heights of second.

Fenerbahce 1 - Kocaelispor 1 (Super Lig, March 13, 2009) Roberto Carlos rolled back the years to give Fener a second minute lead, thumping a shot home from 25-yards out. But it was not enough for the hosts who were held to a draw by Moreiraโ€™s last-gasp headed equaliser.
