A surprise and former popular Rockie emerged as a strong candidate Friday as the Rockies interviewed Walt Weiss for the vacant manager's job, according to a major-league source.
Weiss played several seasons for the Rockies in the mid-1990s and later served as a special assistant to general manager Dan O'Dowd before leaving to become the varsity baseball coach at Regis Jesuit High School.
