Fantasy owners that took a chance on Peyton Manning this season haven't been disappointed, a trend that should continue into Week 8 of the fantasy football season.
Manning may not have the arm strength that he used to, but his numbers have been largely unaffected this year in Denver. Through six games, Manning is fifth among quarterbacks in fantasy points. In addition to his high output, his consistency has been remarkable—Manning has scored more than 20 points in every week but one.
Here's a look at his matchup going into this week's game and what owners can expect from the fantasy football star.
Despite all of the concern over Manning's four neck surgeries last year, he has managed to remain healthy thus far this season. The fact that Manning hasn't missed any time this year is a great sign for the Broncos and fantasy owners who didn't mind the injury risk at the beginning of the season.
Beyond Manning, the Broncos are almost completely healthy on offense. At the midway point of the season, health becomes a huge issue. At this point the Broncos can count that as an advantage; only Jacob Tamme is listed on the injury report on the offensive side of the ball, and he should play.
Not only is Manning healthy, but so are all of his weapons. For a guy that likes to spread the ball around like Manning, that's a huge plus in Week 8.
Coming off of the bye week, the Broncos signal caller gets a nice matchup against the struggling New Orleans Saints defense.
How many fantasy points will Manning have this week?
The Saints have given up more fantasy points to any quarterback this season than any other unit in the league at 21 points per game.
Before Week 7, an argument could be made that the Saints had just run into an unfortunate streak of good quarterbacks. New Orleans' schedule has given them matchups against Robert Griffin III, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers. However, last week's 29-point performance by Josh Freeman really confirms it—the Saints defense is just bad.
With Manning's last three performances yielding more than 300 yards and three touchdowns, the Saints defense will need a miracle to slow Manning down. There isn't a better matchup in all of fantasy football in Week 8 than Manning against the Saints.
Manning has been incredible of late. After a seven-point performance in a Monday Night game against the Falcons, Manning has scored at least 20 points every time out.
With a whole arsenal of healthy options at his disposal and a Saints offense that is steadily hitting its stride, expect this game to be a shootout. That favors Manning owners as he'll be in charge of outgunning Drew Brees.
Expect something in the range of 300 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for around 24 points this week.
