Obstacles Abound for MMA Legislation in New York

Nate DoubleAnalyst IMarch 13, 2009

I'm an unabashed fan and supporter of Cage Potato and get a good portion of my MMA news and information there.

One of their writers, Ben Fowlkes, also writes articles for SI.com and had the opportunity to interview the biggest opponent of MMA in the state of New York: Assemblyman Bob Reilly.

Even if you don't live in New York, Reilly's views and misconceptions should concern you. New York is not only one of the sports and media capitals of the world, but also a major policy trendsetter for other states.

If MMA was sanctioned in New York tomorrow, you can bet your last dollar that states like Massachusetts and Michigan would quickly follow suit.

It's my belief that MMA should be sanctioned and regulated in every state as well as the territories of Canada where it is strongly supported be legions of fans.

The article can be found on cagepotato.com or here if you want to give Ben some much deserved traffic.
