The San Francisco Giants struck first in the World Series on Wednesday night, taking Game 1 over the Detroit Tigers, 8-3.
Pablo Sandoval went 4-for-4 from the plate, including three massive home runs—two of which came off Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Those blasts paced the Giants offense, giving San Francisco all the momentum necessary for a dominant win.
The offensive outburst was supported by an excellent start by Barry Zito. The southpaw earned his first World Series win, allowing one run in 5.2 innings on the mound.
Jim Leyland must right the ship quickly with Game 2 on Thursday night. He will send Doug Fister to the mound to face Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Catch the action on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.
