Big 12 and Big East: Chaos in Conference Tourneys

The Big XII was turned upside down today. Only one of the four top-seeded teams advanced to the semi-finals.

The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks fell to the No. 9 Baylor Bears 71-64, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns knocked out the No. 4 Kansas State Wildcats 61-58, and the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners were stunned 71-70 by the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The No. 3 Missouri Tigers advanced in an 81-60 beatdown on No. 11 Texas Tech. In the semi-finals, the Longhorns will meet the Bears, and the Cowboys will face the Tigers.

My prediction—Missouri beats Texas in the Big XII championship game.

The Big East had an interesting day as well.

After the No. 1 Louisville Cardinals dismantled the No. 8 Providence Friars, the No. 4 Villanova Wildcats needed a Dwayne Anderson lay-up at the buzzer to squeak by the No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles, 76-75.

In the night-cap, the No. 7 West Virginia Mountaineers shocked the No. 2 Pitt Panthers to advance to Friday's second semi-final. The 74-60 win was the first of the year for WVU over Pitt.
