Michigan State wrapped up their regular season championship with a 62-51 victory over Purdue in the Breslin Center. This one was won on the defensive side of the ball as the Spartans held Purdue to 28.3% shooting. Michigan State actually trailed at halftime before getting the offense rolling in the second half.
Michigan State, ranked seventh in the nation, has now won five in a row and eight out of their last nine.
Minnesotamoved on to the second round of the Big Ten Tourney with a 66-53 win over Northwestern. The two teams were back in forth for the first ten minutes with Kevin Coble fueling the Wildcats.
Minnesota managed to finish the half with a six point lead. Northwestern fell apart during the second half offensively as Minnesota pulled away led by Lawrence Westbrook who finished with 14 points. 10 players scored in the game for the Gophers.
