In an amazing turnaround, the San Francisco Giants came back from a 3-1 series deficit to send the St. Louis Cardinals packing in Game 7 of the NLCS on Monday, 9-0.

Right-hander Matt Cain pitched 5.2 innings of shutout ball and relievers Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla, Javier Lopez and Sergio Romo combined to hold the Cardinals scoreless in what turned out to be a blowout victory.

Second baseman Marco Scutaro, the series MVP, went 3-for-4 with a run, Hunter Pence went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run and first baseman Brandon Belt went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs.

Scutaro, who came to the Giants in a midseason trade, went 14-for-28 with four RBI and six runs in the NLCS.

The Giants host the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the 2012 World Series on Wednesday at AT&T Park. After winning the World Series in 2010, San Francisco is back in it after defeating the reigning champions.
