As part of NFL Network's ongoing A Football Life series, NFL Films will next explore former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo after focusing on Steve McNair in the sixth episode of its second season.

DeBartolo's reign as the 49ers owner lasted from 1977 until 2000, during which time his team was a perennial playoff contender, ultimately winning five Super Bowls. Beloved by players, coaches and fans, DeBartolo ushered in a golden age of 49ers football.

Below are some details on the episode, including the date and time it will air.

NFL Films chronicles the genesis of DeBartolo's rise as one of the greatest owners in NFL history, interviewing former players, coaches and friends.

Whenever his players needed anything, "Mr. D" was there to provide any help he could muster. He knew the names of all his players' wives and children and took a genuine interest in their personal lives.

Players are still unwaveringly loyal to the man, and they're proud to call themselves, "Eddie's guys".

His influence on the game of football makes him an NFL immortal, and he is one of many men who are being considered to be inducted into the NFL's Hall of Fame in 2013.

DeBartolo's legacy was tainted in 1998, though, when he "pleaded guilty in federal court to a felony charge of failing to report that Louisiana's former governor allegedly extorted $400,000 from him to win a casino license," according to SFGate.com

Then, in 2000, DeBartolo gave up control of the 49ers to his sister, Marie Denise DeBartolo York (h/t SFGate.com).

Don't miss this fantastic documentary. Make sure you record it on your DVR if you can't watch it live, and enjoy the legacy of one of the greatest owners in NFL history.
