Two lightweight matches have been announced thus far and aside from BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian and Sean Sherk this is the most you could ask for in this division.
Last week it came out that Diego Sanchez (No. 4 the current Bulldozer Rankings) is fighting Clay Guida (No. 9 in the Bulldozer Rankings) at the The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale.
This fight is huge, the winner will surely be in the title hunt. Sanchez is already on the brink and is only one or two fights away from facing the winner of Penn and KenFlo. Guida had a massive win against Nate Diaz and has become relevant in the lightweight division. A win here probably pins him in the top five of the division.
Now, according to MMAMadness and MMAJunkie, Nate Diaz (No. 10 in the Bulldozer Rankings) is set to face Joe Stevenson (No. 6 in the Bulldozer Rankings). This match has much different implications than Guida vs. Sanchez. These guys are coming off losses to the men in the other fights and are fighting just to stay relevant in the lightweight division.
It's safe to say the losers won't be fighting anyone in the top 10 next time, and may start fighting for their jobs with two or three more losses.
Expect TUF 9 to decide the top contenders for the title. Diego Sanchez may be fighting for the title later this year if things go his way.
