That's all from me today. Thanks for joining me here on Bleacher Report's commentary of Liverpool vs Reading. Hope you enjoyed it. Check back later for match reaction, player ratings and things of that nature!
Reading can be pleased with how they played second half but their defense is a major cause for concern. Liverpool could have scored six or seven and should have scored at least three.
It's a first home league win for Liverpool though and that's what really matters at the end of the day.
Liverpool will be happy to have won the match but there will be parts of the performance that will concern Brendan Rodgers. The Reds were very open at times and sloppy in position throughout the game. The need for a finisher is as evident as ever.
FULL TIME AT ANFIELD - LIVERPOOL 1-0 READING
A deserved home win for Liverpool who dominated the game for the most part. Reading improved greatly in the second half but didn't have the quality to take anything from the game.
90 +3 - Nicky Shorey lofts a free kick into the box, Brad Jones comes and claims it comfortably. It's the last incident of note as the final whistle has just blown.
90 + 1 - Yellow card for Mariappa after a foul on Luis Suarez.
85 - Brad Jones has been excellent today and he collects the ball well to snuff a Reading attack.
84 - Final substitution for Liverpool. Jordan Henderson replaces Raheem Sterling.
83 - Great run by Andre Wisdom who finds Jose Enrique bursting down the left flank. Enrique plays a dangerous ball across the box but McCarthy gathers.
80 - Final substitution for Reading. Jason Roberts replaces Danny Guthrie.
77 - Suarez misses a sitter. Good work down the left from Liverpool and the ball arrives to Suarez, unmarked and 12 yards out but he sends his shot wide. Poor from Suarez who has otherwise been excellent.
74 - Substitutions for both teams. Reading bring on Le Fondre to replace Pogrebnyak and Liverpool replace Suso with Jose Enrique.
69 - Two chances for Liverpool! Raheem Sterling bursts down the left flank and squares the ball for Daniel Agger who looks set to tap in but a defender takes it off his toe. The ball breaks to Glen Johnson who has his shot well saved by McCarthy.
65 - Chance for Liverpool. Luis Suarez floats a beautiful ball to Jonjo Shelvey who just needs to control the ball to have a simple chance but his touch lets him down.
Reading go straight down the other end with a dangerous looking attack which Brad Jones cuts out.
And Liverpool head straight down the other end and Gerrard forces a save from McCarthy.
This match is resembling a basketball game right now. End to end stuff.
63 - Chance for Liverpool. A lovely whipped ball into the box by Steven Gerrard is met by the head of Martin Skrtel who just can't get his header on target.
62 - Liverpool Substitution. Jonjo Shelvey replaces Nuri Sahin.
58 - End to end stuff here as Liverpool create a chance at the other end. Sterling and Suarez involved as ever and Suarez probably should have done better.
57 - Chance for Reading who are starting to put pressure on Liverpool. Jobi McAnuff with a good effort which Brad Jones saves.
56 - Yellow Card for Daniel Agger for a foul on Pogrebnyak
53 - Chance for Reading! A long ball splits the Liverpool defense and McCleary is one on one with Brad Jones but the Liverpool keeper does really well and makes the save.
50 - Johnson with 2 efforts, the first one is blocked and second goes wide.
Luis Suarez is still limping after that tackle right at the end of the first half. Half times replays showed what a poor decision it was from the referee.
46 - Chance for Liverpool. Suarez once again the instigator, finds Raheem Sterling in the box and the youngster forces a good save from McCarthy.
Liverpool are kicking towards the Kop in the second half.
