After a rain-soaked Wednesday evening in St. Louis, the Cardinals finally took a 2-1 NLCS lead with their 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
The game was scoreless until the Giants took the lead in the top of the third inning with a Pablo Sandoval groundout. That lead didn't last long, though, as Cardinals right fielder Matt Carpenter smacked a two-run home run to right-center field.
Carpenter wouldn't even have been in the game had Carlos Beltran not gotten hurt in the second inning. Beltran is currently listed as day-to-day, according to ESPN.com.
Shane Robinson's run-scoring groundout in the seventh was the icing on the cake, as Jason Motte came on to earn a two-inning save following the rain delay.
The Giants are now in a tough spot. Sending Tim Lincecum to the mound is risky, but he has been very good in relief this postseason. Adam Wainwright, on the other hand, gave up six runs in 2.1 innings versus the Nationals in his last start.
Game 4 will begin Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
