Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander pitched 8.1 innings of one-run ball and the Yankees were held to five hits as Detroit rolled to a 3-0 series advantage on Tuesday.
Delmon Young hit a home run in the fourth inning and Miguel Cabrera hit a double to score Quintin Berry in the fifth, and that was all the Tigers needed as they held on.
Next up is Game 4 on Wednesday in Detroit. The Tigers will advance to the World Series with one more win.
