Even when they don't have their best stuff working, the St. Louis Cardinals just keep finding ways to win in the postseason. After Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, the defending World Series champions look poised to keep their momentum going against the San Francisco Giants.
The Cardinals used a powerful offensive attack—led by David Freese and Carlos Beltran—and a sterling effort from the bullpen, which was problematic in the regular season, to capture the first game of the series in San Francisco.
Game 2 doesn't figure to feature the same kind of offense that we saw on Sunday night, with Chris Carpenter on the mound for the Cardinals and Ryan Vogelsong taking the bump for the Giants, but both pitchers do have question marks around them.
The Cardinals would love to head home with a 2-0 advantage and Kyle Lohse on the mound in Game 3. The Giants need to salvage a split at home with Matt Cain likely going in Game 3 after winning the decisive game in the NLDS against Cincinnati.
First pitch is Monday at 8:07 p.m. ET.
