David Ortiz Surprises, Will Play First Base For Dominican Republic

I guess his ailing shoulder must be suddenly feeling much better?

A day after Ortiz basically came out and said he can't play first base, he'll be manning that corner so that both Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez can be in the lineup against the Netherlands. Reyes will play shortstop and Ramirez will be the designated hitter.

It is an elimination game, after all, and the Dominican team did lose their first matchup to the Netherlands on Saturday. Manager Felipe Alou wants all his best hitters in the lineup and Ortiz playing at first allows him to do just that.
