Anderson Silva faced an vastly outgunned Stephan Bonnar in the main event of UFC 153. Silva and Bonnar stepped up on short notice to save the card after Jose Aldo suffered an injury. For Silva, this was little more than an exhibition for the Brazilian fans.
He let them witness greatness firsthand as he outclassed Bonnar. The ending sequence was as impressive as we've seen from Silva as he used his Matrix-like head movement to avoid all of Bonnar's attempts at landing a strike.
The sequence from the Live Blog:
Bonnar backs away and Anderson stays on the cage. He's taunting Bonnar. He's showing absolutely zero respect for Bonnar's skill set. Bonnar looks for a single and Anderson lands an elbow to the head. Anderson allowing Bonnar to throw punches and defending them with ridiculous head movement. Anderson hits a takedown and then a massive knee to the solar plexus as Bonnar stands up. Bonnar is in the fetal position and Silva lands ridiculous punches from the top. Best fighter on the planet folks.
After the fight, Anderson said that he had no intention of remaining at 205 pounds, obviously hinting at a lack of interest in a fight with Jon Jones. That very statement has to be making UFC president Dana White the most frustrated man in the world as it would guarantee major business.
Silva will return to middleweight, where he'll await his next challenger. While Chris Weidman is more deserving, Michael Bisping is likely Silva's next opponent.
As for Bonnar? He'll likely return to retired life, waiting for the next opportunity at a big-name fight.
