It took two 8-5 seasons, but Brian Kelly finally has Notre Dame back on the college football map.
ESPN's College GameDay crew will be in South Bend, Ind. in Week 7 to preview the weekend's college football action in front of a sea of rowdy Irish fans and hopeful Stanford supporters.
With the two teams a combined 9-1 coming into Saturday afternoon's rivalry showdown, the decision to make South Bend the Week 7 location was a no-brainer. After all, it's been seven years since Lee Corso and the guys kicked off Saturday from South Bend.
Here we get you set with everything you need to know for College GameDay's Week 7 edition.
Where: South Bend, Ind.
When: Saturday, October 13, 2012
Coverage: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET
The Atmosphere Will Be Electric
Expect a buzzing atmosphere outside Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday.
Hardly a bold prediction I know, but worth pointing out considering how long it's been since the GameDay crew made landfall in South Bend.
It didn't take long for the football program to announce its joy that ESPN was coming to town, via the team's official Twitter account:
Wherever College GameDay visits is usually loud, but South Bend will be electric on Saturday as a combination of several factors (weekend, national television, home game, undefeated team, rivalry matchup) are sure to overwhelm the set and drown out the crew's voices.
Corso Will Harness His Inner Leprechaun
If I know Lee Corso like I think I know Lee Corso, he will be celebrating Halloween early on Saturday.
With Notre Dame coming in at 5-0 and sporting one of if not the nation's most fearsome defensive fronts, I fully expect Corso to take the home team. Of course, his picks are never that simple.
In classic Corso fashion, he'll make a case for both sides and then ignite the crowd at the last minute by harnessing his inner Leprechaun in support of Notre Dame. He lives for the reaction of the fans and will take on the life of the program's mascot for a brief moment.
You've been warned.
Although kickoff for Stanford vs. Notre Dame isn't scheduled until 3:30 p.m. ET (NBC), I can't resist making a prediction for one of Week 7's can't-miss clashes.
With all due respect to Josh Nunes, Stepfan Taylor and Stanford, Notre Dame's front seven is playing on another level right now. The Irish have allowed 12 points total over their last three games and rank second in the country in scoring defense, surrendering just 7.8 points per game.
It's hard to argue with that type of defensive prowess. Therefore, I like Brian Kelly's Irish to prevail at home on Saturday, moving to 6-0 for the first time since 2002.
