The St. Louis Cardinals wouldn’t go down quietly as they battled back from a six-run deficit to advance to the NLCS after a four-run ninth inning rally to defeat the Washington Nationals 9-7.
St. Louis second baseman Daniel Descalso was ridiculously clutch, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, including a single in the ninth inning that knotted the game at seven apiece.
Following Descalso's ninth inning hit, Pete Kozma singled in two more runs in what turned out to be the deciding factor in this one. Carlos Beltran also came to play today, going 3-for-3 at the dish with three runs scored.
Jason Motte gets credited with the win, as he went two innings, allowing one run on three hits. Closer Drew Storen takes the loss, as he entered the ninth with a lead but surrendered four earned runs on three hits and two walks.
The Cardinals will travel to San Francisco on Sunday to face the Giants at 8 p.m. ET.
