It was a little more tense than they probably would have liked, but in the end, the San Francisco Giants found themselves NLCS-bound with a 6-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds in Game 5 of the NLDS.
The Giants rode a massive six-run fifth inning to a 6-0 lead, thanks in large part to a massive grand slam from Buster Posey, then hung on for dear life as the Reds chipped slowly away at the lead.
By the time the bottom of the ninth rolled around, the Giants' lead was just 6-3, thanks to a home run by Ryan Ludwick and a two-run double by Brandon Philips. The lead was cut to two courtesy of an RBI single from Ludwick in the bottom of the ninth, but reliever Sergio Romo managed to get Jay Bruce to fly out to right before striking out Scott Rolen to give San Francisco a 3-2 series win.
The Giants will now face the winners of the St. Louis Cardinals-Washington Nationals series in the NLCS.
