Detroit Lions Need to Build the Team The Right Way, Not Right Away.

Leo ShineContributor IAugust 10, 2016

It seems to be in my face every where I look, the Detroit Lions take Matt Stafford with the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. This is coming from the experts you all know who they are so I will not bore you with a list.

In my opinion they say this because it is the easy thing to do. There is no better story than a quarterback with the No. 1 pick of the draft. It is the easy pick for the analysts and an NFL team. It appeases the masses and states we will get better right away.

I say we should get better the right way.It is a theme that keep popping in my head because it has been pumped into our brains. It is a quote that you hear in the business world as much as football these days "build your team from the  inside out".

If we are to learn from history this is the right way. So much so that it translates to the business world where theory's do not last if they are not effective.

This means that the Lions should draft a offensive lineman, defensive lineman, and linebacker not necessarily in that order with at least the first three picks. With their remaining picks they can add players that will surround them with a support system that will make each others job easier.

If they follow this system with future free agency and draft picks they will have a team  with a solid core and depth. This is the type of team that is built to make playoff runs.

I do feel that the Lions will build this team the right way, not right away.
