Should Joe Girardi put $29 million on the bench in the midst of the playoffs?
Following Raul Ibanez's epic game-tying and game-winning home runs in Game 3 of the ALDS, prompted by Girardi's pinch-hitting Ibanez for Alex Rodriguez, the scrutiny on A-Rod's inclusion in the starting lineup for Game 4 is building steam.
The Yankee mega-star has just one hit in 12 plate appearances so far against the Orioles in the ALDS, begging the question as to whether his bat is really benefiting the Yankees. The problem for the club and Girardi is that nobody else is faring much better so far, save for Russell Martin, Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter.
So, it's not like Girardi has a sexier option at third base for the Bronx Bombers.
However, it seems like role players akin to Ibanez are providing the necessary lift the Yanks need to advance in the playoffs, so Girardi has a tough decision to make.
Game 4 puts this struggling Yankee lineup against Joe Saunders of the Baltimore Orioles, who pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball in the team's AL Wild-Card win against the Texas Rangers.
So, should A-Rod be in the batter's box, or on the bench?
