In the 2008 offseason, the Oakland Raiders gave away huge contracts to players who were believed to be able to change the Raiders habit of losing.

They didn't. Instead, the Raiders won five games. This year Al Davis and his head coach, Tom Cable, have decided to stay out of the headlines and silently re-sign their best players, not acquiring many players who can help at the positions with the most need. The first part is smart, but the second part, for me, is annoying.

The Raiders have completely ignored the fact that their defensive line can be stopped by a newborn, the wide receivers are young and have no veteran to help them, and their offensive tackles can't even block their defensive ends!

The Raiders must quickly trade for and sign players that don't need the big bucks and will do their job. Maybe one high-priced guy.

At the offensive tackle position, the Raiders will be fine. Move Mario Henderson to right tackle and draft an offensive tackle in the first round. The only thing that worries me is the fact that Davis may not want to take an offensive tackle. He might want to take the best defensive linemen available. If so, Khalif Barnes is definitely a possibility.

For wide out, I think the Raiders still need a veteran in spite of keeping Javon Walker. Maybe Torry Holt or Marvin Harrison will come here in Oakland and show Schliens and Higgins a thing or two. The Raiders seem to never get enough youth so look for them to pick up a wide receiver in the second round.

At defensive line the Raiders really need to get a pass rush going. Bertrand Berry or Jason Taylor, anyone? The Raiders will probably pick up a defensive lineman in the draft but I couldn't give you a good guess of who or when. Cross you fingers.

The Raiders have been very quiet this offseason. Not at all like last year. But I think it is time to pick up some one, and quick.
