Kansas Jayhawks Win Big XII Regular Season Championship Again

Jordan LanningCorrespondent IMarch 10, 2009

Kansas' victory over Texas this Saturday solidified themselves a Big XII crown.

The Jayhawks had more conference wins than the National Champion Jayhawks from last year with 14 wins.

What makes this story even greater is that Kansas lost all five of their starters to either graduation or to the NBA. The best two players (Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich) weren't even starters!

Kansas head coach Bill Self was also named the Big XII Coach Of the Year and he definitely deserves it.

At the beginning of the season the annual preseason polls came out and Kansas was picked to finish fourth. Oklahoma was picked to be first, Texas second, and Baylor third.

The postseason standings have Kansas first, Oklahoma second, Missouri third, and Texas A&M at fourth.

I have no clue how Kansas will do come tournament time, but as long as Collins and Aldrich play as good as they have been, and if Tyshawn Taylor and Brady Morningstar are playing like they should, the "Babyhawks" should go far.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
