College Football Predictions for Every Week 7 Game
Through six weeks of the 2012 season, things have continued to take big twists and turns. Just when you think you have a handle on what is going on in college football, something like Florida State losing happens.
This week, the college football world is treated to great games like the undefeated Irish playing host to Stanford and South Carolina putting its undefeated ranking on the line at LSU.
Before the first game kicks off, here is a prediction for each Week 7 game.
Western Kentucky at Troy
In a battle of two teams that are doing well in the Sun Belt Conference, Western Kentucky and Troy are set to do battle. Despite being on the road, look for Western Kentucky's offense to be the difference as it pulls out the win late in the game.
Prediction: Western Kentucky
Final Score: Western Kentucky 31, Troy 26
UTEP at Tulsa
This one is pretty straightforward: The UTEP offense and defense are brutally poor, and Tulsa is rolling. Look for the Golden Hurricanes to have this game wrapped up by the half.
Final Score: Tulsa 33, UTEP 11
Arizona State at Colorado
Very quietly, the Sun Devils are 4-1 this season and about to be 5-1. Unless the Sun Devils get caught looking ahead to Oregon, they should have no issues rolling into Colorado and earning a conference win.
Prediction: Arizona State
Final Score: Arizona State 51, Colorado 17
Navy at Central Michigan
This week, fans of the Naval Academy will find out if the win over Air Force will help this team turn the corner. It sets out on the road this week and in a game that could be tight all the way. Late in the fourth quarter, expect Central Michigan to finally pull ahead for good and defend its home field.
Prediction: Central Michigan
Final Score: Navy 31, Central Michigan 13
Louisville at Pittsburgh
Teddy Bridgewater has looked just as good as a sophomore as he did as a freshman. This week, the Cardinals head on the road to play Pittsburgh, and they will need to remain focused. There is no reason they should lose this game.
Final Score: Louisville 45, Pitt 35
Kansas State at Iowa State
Early on this year, Kansas State has picked up right where it left off last year. The Wildcats offense is explosive, and despite playing on the road, they will have no issues taking care of business against Iowa State.
Prediction: Kansas State
Final Score: Kansas State 27, Iowa State 21
Texas vs Oklahoma
In one of the biggest rivalry games in the country, Texas and Oklahoma will both be trying to remain in the hunt in the Big 12. With so much on the line, look for this game to be tight the entire way, but ultimately, the defense of the Sooners will lock up a win for Oklahoma.
Final Score: Oklahoma 63, Texas 21
Syracuse at Rutgers
The Rutgers defense is starting to get some attention, and for all the right reasons: The Scarlet Knights defense ranks fifth in the nation for points against. Look for them to close the door and Syracuse and preserve another win.
Final Score: Rutgers 23, Syracuse 15
Iowa at Michigan State
Despite its struggles this year, Michigan State has still kept itself in the Big Ten race. This week, Iowa comes to town, and as long as the offense can show up for a second straight week, the defense should be able to keep the Hawkeyes at a distance.
Prediction: Michigan State
Final Score: Iowa 19, Michigan State 16 in Double OT
Northwestern at Minnesota
Two surprise teams in the Big Ten go at it this week, and it should be a good game. The Northwestern offense has been humming along, and despite being on the road, the Wildcats should have enough offensive firepower to get the job done against the Gophers.
Final Score: Northwestern 21, Minnesota 13
UAB at Houston
After a rough start to the year, Houston appears to be getting things turned around. The offense has started to take some of the pressure off of the defense, and UAB should be a game in which the trend will continue.
Final Score: Houston 39, UAB 17
Kent State at Army
Army has been dreadful so far this year, and despite being at home, it is going up against a Kent State team that has balance on both sides of the ball. While the game may remain close early, the Golden Flashes should be able to pull away in the second half.
Prediction: Kent State
Final Score: Kent State 31, Army 17
Wisconsin at Purdue
After being humbled at home against Michigan last week, the Boilermakers have a chance to bounce back against Wisconsin. Despite being at home for the second straight week, look for the Badgers to start to gain some momentum by earning a big conference win.
Final Score: Wisconsin 38, Purdue 14
Auburn at Ole Miss
The Auburn season is about to get a whole lot worse this week. After a rough loss to Arkansas at home, the Tigers head on the road to take on a much-improved Ole Miss team. Look for the Rebels to make life miserable for Auburn and earn a huge home win.
Prediction: Ole Miss
Final Score: Ole Miss 41, Auburn 20
Duke at Virginia Tech
Duke is dangerously close to flirting with a bowl berth, as it sits at 5-1. Despite how poorly the Hokies have played this year, look for the celebration to be postponed, as Virginia Tech may take out a lot of its frustrations on the Blue Devils.
Prediction: Virginia Tech
Final Score: Va Tech 41, Duke 20
Temple at Connecticut
Both teams enter this game with strong defenses, but the problem for the Huskies will be their offense. While Temple is not a team that will hang a lot of points, the Owls will do enough to get the job done and earn a conference win.
Final Score: Temple 17, UConn 14 in OT
Toledo at Eastern Michigan
After an opening-week loss to Arizona, Toledo has bounced back and been focused and ready to play. In Week 7, the Rockets head on the road and will cruise to their sixth straight win with a game against Eastern Michigan.
Final Score: Toledo 52, Eastern Michigan 47
SMU at Tulane
At 0-5, Tulane has been struggling all year long. While SMU has done OK, it still has enough talent to get out in front early in this game and make sure that Tulane never gets in it.
Final Score: Tulane 27, SMU 26
Akron at Ohio
Another MAC team that has looked solid this year is Ohio. The Bobcats are off to a 6-0 start, and as long as they continue to take things one week at a time, they could be looking at an undefeated season.
Final Score: Ohio 34, Akron 28
North Carolina at Miami
In the ACC, Miami has been great; out of conference, the Hurricanes have been humbled. This week, they return home from their beatdown in South Bend and will continue the trend by taking things out on the Tar Heels.
Final Score: North Carolina 18, Miami 14
Utah at UCLA
This is a huge game in the Pac-12 South, as the loser will be completely out of the conference race. While both teams are balanced, the offense of the Bruins has been more consistent and will likely be the difference in a UCLA home win.
Final Score: UCLA 21, Utah 14
Maryland at Virginia
After a great 2011 season, the Cavaliers have fallen apart early on in 2012. With a conference matchup at home, they have a chance of pulling it together, but look for the stingy Maryland defense to make life difficult and be the difference in a Terrapins win.
Final Score: Maryland 27, Virginia 20
Nevada at UNLV
After a rough start to the schedule for Nevada, the Wolf Pack have turned the corner and are now looking like a serious threat in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV lacks the talent needed to keep up, which will put Nevada at the six-win mark.
Final Score: Nevada 42, UNLV 37
Alabama at Missouri
Alabama continues to chew up opponents and spit them out. This week, Missouri has the task of going up against the defending national champions, and the Tigers will fail badly.
Final Score: Alabama 42, Missouri 14
West Virginia at Texas Tech
No matter who it goes up against, it is hard to imagine that West Virginia will not score enough points to win. This week, the Mountaineers head on the road to take on Texas Tech, and while it may be a high-scoring game, West Virginia should prevail once again.
Prediction: West Virginia
Final Score: Texas Tech 49, West Virginia 14
Stanford at Notre Dame
This is one of the biggest games of the weekend. The Irish are still undefeated, and the Cardinal appear to have hit their stride on offense. While Stanford may be able to put up some points, the Irish defense will stand tall and keep their perfect record in tact.
Prediction: Notre Dame
Final Score: Notre Dame 20, Stanford 13 (OT)
Oregon State at BYU
Back to reality this week for Oregon State. After losing their starting quarterback, the Beavers head on the road and go up against a motivated BYU team. Look for the Beavers to get beat up in this game and lose their first game of the year.
Final Score: Oregon State 42, BYU 24
Fresno State at Boise State
Upset time. While both teams appear to be picking up steam, I like Fresno State in this spot. Look for a complete team performance as the Bulldogs shock the Broncos on their home field.
Prediction: Fresno State
Final Score: Boise State 20, Fresno State 14
Illinois at Michigan
Michigan opened up conference play with a huge win against Purdue. This week, the Wolverines return home, and with Denard Robinson back to his old ways, look for the Wolverines to earn another conference win, this time over Illinois.
Final Score: Michigan 45, Illinois 0
Miami (Ohio) at Bowling Green
Both teams are struggling to find consistency this year, but the difference may come down to the Bowling Green defense. With the RedHawks struggling on offense and Bowling Green playing at home, expect the Falcons to prevail.
Prediction: Bowling Green
Final Score: Bowling Green 37, Miami 12
UTSA at Rice
In its first season in the FBS division, UTSA is undefeated. Rice has gotten off to a bad start, and things may hit rock bottom as the Roadrunners head on the road and earn a huge win for the program.
Final Score: Rice 34, UTSA 14
Oklahoma State at Kansas
This game should be over by the half. Oklahoma State has too much offensive firepower for Kansas to keep up. The Cowboys will run away with this game and get their starters some rest come the second half.
Prediction: Oklahoma State
Final Score: Oklahoma State 20, Kansas 14
Buffalo at Northern Illinois
In this MAC showdown, Northern Illinois is another team that should have things under control by the half. Buffalo doesn't have the balance that the Huskies have, and it will be unable to keep pace during this game.
Prediction: Northern Illinois
Final Score: Northern Illinois 45, Buffalo 3
Utah State at San Jose State
After a tough loss to BYU, Utah State returns to action, looking to take out all of its offensive frustrations on San Jose State. The Aggies are a solid team and will lean on their defense all the way to their fifth victory.
Prediction: Utah State
Final Score: Utah State 49, San Jose State 27
Memphis at ECU
After beating Rice and earning its first victory, it is back to reality for Memphis this week. The Tigers truly struggle to put points up with any consistency and will be unable to keep pace with ECU.
Final Score: ECU 41, Memphis 7
Boston College at Florida State
I would not want to be Boston College in this game. One week after being stunned, Florida State is going to be out for blood. Look for the Seminoles to lay it on and score as many points as possible against the Eagles.
Prediction: Florida State
Final Score: Florida State 51, Boston College 7
Florida at Vanderbilt
This looks like a trap game at first, but based on the way that Florida has been playing this year, the Gators will not allow that to happen. Look for the Gators defense to shoulder the load and remain undefeated.
Final Score: Florida 31, Vanderbilt 17
Middle Tennessee at FIU
In a game that won't receive a lot of attention, Middle Tennessee makes the trip to take on FIU. The Golden Panthers are struggling this year and will have their hands full with the Blue Raiders' balanced attack. Look for Middle Tennessee to leave town with a victory.
Prediction: Middle Tennessee
Final Score: Middle Tennessee 34, FIU 30
Colorado State at San Diego State
In this Mountain West Conference showdown, the Rams head on the road to take on the Aztecs. This is going to be a tough game for Colorado State to keep up in, as San Diego State could run them out of the building.
Prediction: San Diego State
Final Score: San Diego State 38, Colorado State 14
USC at Washington
After taking a ninth straight loss from Oregon, Washington is rewarded by going home to play USC. The Trojans look refocused and are hoping that they can stay on track with a road win over the Huskies.
Final Score: USC 24, Washington 14
Fordham at Cincinnati
If you are looking for a game that will be over quickly, this is the one for you. Cincinnati has way too much firepower for Fordham to remain even close, so look for the starters to be out of this game by the half.
Final Score: Cincinnati 49, Fordham 17
Kentucky at Arkansas
After beating Auburn, Arkansas is hoping that it can begin to turn this season around one win at a time. This week against Kentucky, that effort will continue, as a win over the Wildcats will be the Razorbacks' second win in a row.
Final Score: Arkansas 49, Kentucky 7
TCU at Baylor
Both teams enter this game coming off of their only loss of the year. TCU is the new kid on the block in the Big 12, and it has a lot to prove. Despite playing on the road, look for the Horned Frogs to turn things around and get back on the winning track.
Final Score: TCU 49, Baylor 21
Idaho at Texas State
Both of these WAC teams are off to a bad start this year and are struggling on offense and on defense. What this game may come down to is the ability of Idaho to throw the ball with some consistency and earn a big win in conference.
Final Score: Texas State 38, Idaho 7
South Alabama at Arkansas State
Despite being wildly inconsistent, Arkansas State looks ready to break the win/loss pattern it has been stuck in. That pattern would dictate a Red Wolves loss this week, but they have too much talent to drop this game.
Prediction: Arkansas State
Final Score: Arkansas State 36, South Alabama 29
Air Force at Wyoming
If there is one thing that Air Force does extremely well, it is run the ball. With that said, Wyoming has had some issues on defense, and that could be a huge issue against the Falcons. Look for Air Force to run wild and win big.
Prediction: Air Force
Final Score: Air Force 28, Wyoming 27
South Carolina at LSU
This week will go a long way in validating South Carolina or raising some flags. The Gamecocks are in Death Valley this week, and while a win would go a long way, I do not see LSU losing a second consecutive game.
Final Score: LSU 23, South Carolina 21
Ohio State at Indiana
Ohio State has looked very good this year, and Indiana is not likely to do a whole lot to change that. Expect the Buckeyes to head on the road, take care of business and roll along with another victory.
Prediction: Ohio State
Final Score: Ohio State 52, Indiana 49
Southern Miss at UCF
What a difference a year makes for Southern Miss. After winning Conference USA last year, the Golden Eagles are one of the worst offensive and defensive teams in the nation. They will drop this game to UCF on the road.
Final Score: UCF 38, Southern Miss 31 (OT)
Florida Atlantic at Louisiana Monroe
When it comes to teams that are 3-2, Louisiana Monroe may be the best team in that group. The Warhawks have pushed some good teams to the brink this year, and as long as they keep bringing that level of play, they will move to 4-2 this week.
Prediction: Louisiana Monroe
Final Score: Louisiana-Monroe 35, FAU 14
Tennessee at Mississippi State
Another huge game puts Tennessee on the road against Mississippi State. This almost feels like a must-win for the Vols, but the Bulldogs have been playing great at home and will hand Tennessee another loss.
Prediction: Mississippi State
Final score: Mississippi State 41, Tennessee 31
Texas A&M at Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech finally cracked the Top 25, but its defense could be the difference in this game. Texas A&M has become a balanced team and will hand the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.
Prediction: Texas A&M
Final Score: Texas A&M 59, Louisiana Tech 57
Cal at Washington State
With both teams in desperate need of a win, this game will put one team in a really bad spot while the other will have a glimmer of hope. With the game in Washington, look for Mike Leach to pull out all the stops and find a way to lead Washington State to a win.
Prediction: Washington State
New Mexico at Hawaii
Hawaii fans are less than thrilled with what is going on, but things will hit rock-bottom this week as the Lobos come to the island and leave with a win. Changes could be in the works for the Warriors if they don't turn things around soon.
Prediction: New Mexico
