It has been reported by TSN.ca that Montreal Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau has been fired by the organization.

Not many details are known at this time, but it is believed that General Manager Bob Gainey will take over on an interim basis, most likely remaining in the position for the remainder of the season.

The Canadiens have struggled this season, being in a position where they could possibly miss the playoffs. However, the club remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, which makes this firing somewhat of a surprise, unless it is due to circumstances outside of general hockey operations.
