In the days just before the trade deadline 2011 Alex Anthopoulos announced that the Toronto Blue Jays had acquired Colby Rasmus from St. Louis. The deal, which included the Chicago White Sox, stamped the Blue Jays General Manager as a baseball genius. Many accorded him the title as smartest man in the game. Fifteen months later that same “smartest man” needs to make some quality deals to stunt the fall of his club and effectively save his reputation—if not his job.
