Better known as 'The Leg,' Greg Zuerlein has been a force this year for the St. Louis Rams. A perfect 13-of-13 on field-goal attempts, the rookie kicker has booted a long of 60 yards. Not only that, but he has kicked a field goal that is at least 42 yards in every game and is seven-of-seven on extra points. Zuerlein is a factor on kickoffs as well with 15 of his 25 attempts being ruled touchbacks.
Scoring 46 points for the Rams out of a total of 96 for the team, he is on pace to end 2012 with 42 field goals made according to ESPN. Only two field-goal kickers have connected on 40 or more field goals in a season (David Akers, 44 and Neil Rackers, 40.)
Zuerlein already has a few NFL records under his belt, and he hasn't even played half of a season yet. Here are a few all-time NFL records he holds after 5 weeks. This doesn't even include the Rams' franchise records he has achieved in his short time.
- Longest field goal in the first quarter—58 yards—(Greg Zuerlein/2012) and (Nick Lowery/1983).
- Longest field goal in the third quarter—60 yards—September 30, 2012 vs. Seahawks
- Most field goals 58+ yards or more in a game—(2)—September 30, 2012 vs. Seahawks
'The Leg' is on his way to becoming one of the greatest kickers in the NFL. But a lot of that success is contingent on whether or not the St. Louis Rams' offense can move the ball effectively. Currently, the offense is ranked 29th in the league with 278 yards per game, but it seems to be getting stronger each week of the season.
