Josh Reddick blasted a solo home run in the top of the eighth to give his Oakland A's a 4-3 lead. It was Oakland's second run of the inning, and it looked like it was going to fuel the A's to a comeback victory.
However, the Tigers have a bit of clutch in them as well, and Don Kelly put that on display with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth to give the Tigers a 5-4 win.
That left the Tigers' Al Alburquerque, who only pitched to one batter in the ninth, to pick up the win.
Not surprisingly, Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera led the way for the Tigers offense. He was 3-for-5 with a double, and he nearly scored the walk-off hit when his single drove Omar Infante to third—Infante ended up scoring the winning run.
