Grading the Yankees' 12th spring training game

Whoa! What a blow out. The Yankees dominated the Detroit Tigers, winning by a score of 12-3.

Phil Hughes—A +

Outstanding performance by the star blogger. He pitched three shut out innings giving up no hits, walking two but striking out four. Very impressive.

Angel Berroa —A +

2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI? Enough said. A+ for you my friend.

A.J. Burnett—A

His first appearance was a good one giving up only one hit in two innings of work. Stay healthy!

Cody Ransom—A

He got a lot out of his two at bats going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. A-Rod who?

Andrew Brackman—D

He's just not making it work. He gave up one earned run on two hits in one inning.

Johnny Damon—F

Another bad performance by Johnny D. He went 0-for-3 and struck out twice bringing his spring average down to a poor .188

Brian Bruney—F

He gave up two earned runs on one hit in one inning of work. Epic fail! The Yankees are going to count on him in the bull pen this year? He better pitch better than this.

Player of the Game: Phil Hughes

I picked on Phil Hughes a lot last year, calling him the star blogger, but this year he's off to a good start. The expectations were too high for him last season.
