Wigan Athletic 2-1 Everton: Premier League as It Happened
Goals: Kone 10', di Santo 23' (Wigan) Jelavic 11', Baines 87' (Everton)
Wigan Athletic: Al Habsi, Kone, McCarthy, Caldwell, Di Santo (McManaman 85'), Maloney, McArthur, Boyce, Ramis, Beausejour, Figueroa. Subs: Pollitt, Jones, Watson, Gomez, Boselli, Miyaichi.
Everton: Howard, Baines, Heitinga (Distin 46'), Jagielka, Jelavic, Mirallas (Naismith 90+3'), Neville (Anichebe 81'), Pienaar, Osman, Coleman, Fellaini. Subs: Mucha, Oviedo, Gueye, Duffy.
90+5'- The final whistle blows, and a very entertaining game ends tied up at 2-2.
Arouna Kone and Nikica Jelavic traded early goals, before Franco di Santo gave Wigan a 2-1 lead to take into half time.
But a late Leighton Baines penalty saw a thrilling encounter end 2-2.
Thanks for joining me, and make sure to stay tuned to Bleacher Report for all the coverage from Saturday's EPL clashes.
90+5'- Last chance for Everton as they win a free kick on the halfway line.
They try and pass it through Wigan though, and quickly lose possession.
90+2'- End-to-end stuff at the moment, as both teams search for a winner.
Anichebe flies in dangerously on Figueroa, and is the latest Everton player to be booked.
89'- CHANCE WIGAN!
So, so close from Shaun Maloney as he dallies having been put through one-on-one. Should have shot first time, but the deflected effort sails agonisingly over Howard's goal.
We're going to have five minutes added time for Wigan fans to sweat.
87'- GOAL EVERTON!
Clinical, clinical finish from former Wigan man Baines as he buries it in the top corner.
Three minutes of normal time for Everton to win it. You wouldn't bet against them.
86'- PENALTY EVERTON!
The Toffees finally get a big call go their way as Kevin Mirallas is taken out on the turn in the box.
Baines to take...
85'- Substitution for Wigan as the excellent Franco di Santo comes of for young McManaman.
83'- An Everton attack breaks down after a misunderstanding between Pienaar and Baines.
Meanwhile Jelavic has another penalty appeal waved away after falling in the box. Didn't look as convincing as his earlier shout though. Caldwell's forearm in his back wasn't as obvious as Jelavic made out.
81'- Substitution for Everton as Anichebe comes on for the disappointing Neville.
80'- Wigan pour forward in search for a game-killing third.
Maloney has a shot from the edge of the box blocked, before a low cross fails to find Kone is space near the penalty spot.
77'- PENALTY SHOUT EVERTON!
Jelavic chests the ball down brilliantly, but whilst winding up for a volley, his foot is blocked by Figueroa in the act of shooting. Protests are waved away, though.
Tough decision for the ref, but that one looked like a penalty.
The ref's pocket has been like a toaster today, cards popping out seemingly every five minutes.
Striker Victor Anichebe prepares to come on for Everton for the last 15 minutes.
75'- Phil Neville is the latest Toffees player to go into the referee's book, as a late tackle on Franco di Santo sees a yellow card produced.
Not as good a performance from Everton than in recent games. Possibly in part due to full-backs Baines and Coleman not having been much of a factor.
72'- Al-Habsi is back up though, as the Everton fans boo for suspected time wasting.
Wigan roar forward immediately, as Kone fires a shot into the heavens after good build up play by Boyce.
71'- Oh no, Al-Habsi looks in a spot of bother as the Wigan trainers rush out to have a look at the Latics' man of the match so far.
Might be an issue with his shoulder, as backup 81-year-old Mike Politt starts to warm up on the sidelines.
69'- Coleman drifts a hopeful ball in towards Jelavic on the penalty spot, but the cross is overhit, and bounces harmlessly out for a goal kick.
67'- Patient passing from Everton, but I think a few of their players are starting to get frustrated with the stubborn Wigan defending.
Wigan have conceded at least two goals in their last four home matches in the Premier League. There is hope yet for Moyes' men.
64'- Pienaar fires a shot at Al Habsi from about 30 yards out. It's on target, and causes the keeper a little bit of trouble.
The spilled save fails to fall to an Everton player in the box, though.
62'- CHANCE WIGAN!
Another searing counter attack from Martinez's men as di Santo looks to feed Kone in a mile of space.
But the former Chelsea man's pass is underhit, and Jagielka gets back to make a goal saving tackle.
After 12 first half goals in the EPL's 3pm kick offs, none have yet to be scored in the second.
Al-Habsi has always struck me as an erratic sort-of fellow, but he's kept his team in it today with some phenomenal saves.
Meanwhile Leighton Baines and Nikica Jelavic have picked up needless yellow cards.
57'- Brief respte from the constant Everton pressure as Wigan pile up the pitch.
Di Santo heads a Beausejour cross wide at the far post. Difficult chance, but could've easily made it 3-1.
The first of the two Mirallas chances:
Brilliant play from Everton. The Pienaar/Baines combination rips Wigan to shreds but the latters cross is blazed over by Mirallas— Official Everton (@Everton) October 6, 2012
54'- CHANCE EVERTON!
Mirallas again who almost scores.
Once fed through on goal, his placed finish is on target for the far corner, but beaten away by the top-notch Al-Habsi.
52'- CHANCE EVERTON!
Kevin Mirallas blasts over in a perfect position to level the scores. No excuse for him there, a great cutback saw him ten yards out, in a position easier to miss from, than score.
