Following in the footsteps of Pele and Robinho, Santos rolled out their latest wonderkid yesterday, as Neymar made his debut as Santos beat Oeste in the Campeonato Paulista.

Neymar, 17, came on with 30 minutes of the match remaining and marked his first appearance with an almost instantaneously cross-cum-shot that clipped the bar and post on its way into the net.

Fearing the vultures, Santos have slapped a 30 million euro fee on Neymar with reports claiming interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City. Under his current deal, Neymar is contracted with Santos until 2014 but, as is standard pratice with many Brazilian footballers, the sports investment company Groupo Sonda own 40% of the youngster.

There was immense media excitement in Brazil over Neymar’s debut, and highlights of his 30 minute cameo can be seen here.
