In the NFL there’s a lot of things that makes a team successful. One of the most important factors in a team’s success is the head coach. The head coach is the general, the motivator, and the organizer of a team.

Without a good head coach, a team can’t be great.

When you look at all the great teams of the past they all had great head coaches that knew how to win.

The Green Bay Packers had Vince Lombardi, the Steelers of the '70s had Chuck Noll, the San Francisco 49ers had Bill Walsh, and the Cowboys had Jimmy Johnson.

I decided to make my Top 10 list of the NFL head coaches in this decade starting from 2000. I will only count the coaches winning record starting from the 2000 season.

Here’s the criteria I used:

Regular season success, post season success, how the coach motivates his players, and most importantly Super Bowl wins. I also inclucded draft success because most of the coaches are involved and have a say on who they draft.

Let me know what you think.

10. Marty Schottenheimer

SAN DIEGO - JANUARY 14: Head coach Marty Schottenheimer of the San Diego Chargers reacts during the AFC Divisional Playoff Game against the New England Patriots held on January 14, 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. (Photo by Lisa Blumen

Marty Schottenheimer has been successful with many NFL franchises. He was hired as the San Diego Chargers head coach on Jan. 29, 2002. He was fired by the Chargers on Feb. 12, 2007.

During his time in San Diego he posted a 47-33 (.558 winning percentage)record. He won two AFC West Championships.

Schottenheimer's best year in San Diego was 2006 when the Chargers were 14-2 and was the first seed in the 2006 Playoffs. He earned the Coach of The Year award in 2004 after he lead the Chargers from a 4-12 to a 12-4 record.

He was a very good motivator as he always was from his times in Cleveland. He always gave great pre-game and locker room speeches.

His drafts were very good if not excellent. He drafted Eli Manning but made a trade for Phillip Rivers who in the past few years has become a good quarterback.

He also drafted in Shawne Merriman, Darren Sproles, Vincent Jackson in 2005 that have all become good players--in Merriman’s case great player. He also drafted Antonio Cromartie in the 2006 Draft.

Although he did well in all the other categories he has not done so well in the post-season. His record in the post-season is 0-2 with the Chargers. That’s the main reason he was fired.

9. Mike Holmgren

Mike Holmgren has had an illustrious career with the Green Bay packers but I will only focus on his career and accomplishments from 2000 and beyond.

From 2000, his regular season record with the Seahawks is 77-67. He's won the NFC West title four consecutive times.

His post-season record has not been very good. His record in the post-season with the Seahawks is 4-6 which is below .500. Although he did take the Seahawks to Super Bowl 40.

He's an average motivator, and excluding Shaun Alexander, he hasn’t really drafted well.

8. John Fox

CHARLOTTE, NC - JANUARY 10: John Fox Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers smiles during warm-ups before the game against the Arizona Cardinals during the NFC Divisional Playoff Game on January 10, 2009 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Caroli

John Fox was hired as the Panthers head in 2002. He led the Panthers to the Super Bowl his first season as head coach only to lose to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Fox joined Vince Lombardi as the only coach to inherit a team that only won one game the year before and take the team to the Super Bowl.

His record with the Panthers in the regular season is 63-49 ( .559 wining percentage). He's won two NFC South Championships. He hasn’t been consistent but is a very good coach.

His post-season record is 5-3 (.625 winning percentage). He's never been one-and-done in the playoffs (except for this year) which is very impressive.

I grade him as an average motivator.

He's drafted very well. He drafted Julius Peppers in 2002 who has been an absolute beast of a player.

He drafted Jordan Gross in 2003, and Gross has become one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.

He drafted DeAngelo Williams in 2006. Williams had a break out year last year and looks like he’ll be good for a long time.

In 2007, he drafted Jon Beason and in 2008 he drafted Jonathan Stewart.

Overall he has drafted pretty well.

7. Jeff Fisher

Jeff Fisher has been coaching a long time. He's been the Titans' head coach since they were the Houston Oilers. He's the longest tendered active head coach. However, let's focus on his career from 2000 and on.

His regular season record from 2000-2008 is 83-61. He won his division three times.

His Postseason record is 2-5 since 2000, which is really horrible.

For the most part he's drafted well. He's drafted Albert Haynesworth, Michael Griffin, Vince Young, and Chris Johnson since 2000.

6. Jon Gruden

Jon Gruden’s first head coaching job was with the Raiders. I will only count his career accomplishments starting from the 2000 season, as I ‘m only counting the top coaching in the new millennium (this decade).

Starting from 2000 John Gruden’s Regular Season record 79-65. He's won five Division Championships.

His post-season record is 5-4 (.556 winning percentage). He also lead his team to a Super Bowl XXXVII victory. Many try to discredit that Super Bowl victory by saying that he inherited Tony Dungy’s team, but last time I checked, Dungy didn’t win a Super Bowl with that team.

He's an excellent motivator, as we all know.

He has not drafted well, though. The most notable players that he drafted were Cadillac Williams, Michael Clayton, and Jermaine Phillips.

5. Brian Billick

Brian Billick was hired as the Baltimore Ravens' Head Coach in 1999. However, once again I’ll only go by his record starting from 2000.

His regular season record starting from 2000 was 72-56. He won the division twice, which is a lot considering that the Steelers and Bengals were all competing very well back then.

His post-season record was 5-3, and he won Super Bowl XXXV.

He was a great motivator.

He drafted very well. He drafted Terrell Suggs in 2006, Ed Reed in 2003, Haloti Ngata in 2006, and Jamal Lewis in 2000; all of whom have become great players.

4. Andy Reid

GLENDALE, AZ - JANUARY 18: Head coach Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on during the NFC championship game against the Arizona Cardinals on January 18, 2009 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Im

Andy Reid’s regular season record starting from 2000 is 92-51-1 (.609). Which is very good. He's won the NFC East five times, which is also very impressive considering he plays in the toughest division of Football.

His post-season record is 10-7, he's never lost in the first round of the playoffs, and has been in five NFC Championship games. He took his team to Super Bowl XXXVIX but lost to the New England Patriots.

He's an average motivator, but if you have Brian Dawkins in your team, you really don’t need to motivate anyone.

He hasn‘t drafted that well from 2000 because he's always drafting in the mid 20's or 30's. His most notable draft pick is Brian Westbrook.

3. Bill Cowher

"The Chin," formally known as Bill Cowher, has been an excellent coach for many years.

His regular season record since 2000 is 72-39, which is extremely good. He's won the division three times during that span.

His Postseason record during that span is 7-3 with a victory in Super Bowl XL.

He's a very good motivator.

He's also drafted very well during that span. Drafting Plaxico Buress, Troy Polamalu, Ben Roethlisberger, and Santonio Holmes.

2. Tony Dungy.

SAN DIEGO - JANUARY 03: Head Coach Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts stands on the field during the AFC Wild Card Game against the San Diego Chargers on January 3, 2009 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

Tony Dungy is not just one of the best coaches in this decade, he's one of the best coaches to coach this game. He's a class act and motivates his players without even screaming or yelling at them.

His record since 2000 is 104-40. That is absolutely unbelievable. His teams have absolutely dominated the regular season. He's won his division five times during that span.

His record was 7-8 in the post season. That’s below .500, but he won Super Bowl XLI.

He's a good motivator and doesn’t need to yell.

He's drafted very well, acquiring Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney, Dallas Clark, and Anthony Gonzales.

1. Bill Belichick

Pause. Wait. There we go.

The first thing that came to your mind when you say this pick was he cheated or that I’m being a homer.

And the first thing you wanted to do was scroll down and start writing comments on how stupid I am or how stupid the choice was.

As for cheating, Bill was convicted of improper camera placement, not “cheating;” it was a misinterpretation of the rules.

As my friend John had mentioned many times before, the Patriots taped a lot of things in those tapes; they taped the clock, the cheerleaders, and the fans eating hot dogs.

If you have a comment on this leave a note in my bulletin board and I’ll be glad to get back to you. There’s no need to have a never ending argument on an article that was intended for Spygate.

In this decade there has been no other coach to accomplish what Bill Belichick has accomplished.

Here are a few of his accomplishments.

He's the only head coach in NFL history to go 16-0 in the regular season.

Only head coach to win a three Super Bowls in four years.

Belichick has led the Patriots to nine or more victories in each of the last seven seasons. Belichick has only had one losing season during that span in New England.

Belichick has lead the Patriots to a 102-42 regular season record.

Belichick is 14-3 in the playoffs during that span, is 15-4 overall, and has a .789 winning percentage in the playoffs which is only second to Vince Lombardi.

Belichick has won the AFC East six times.

In this decade, there hasn’t been any other coach that’s more accomplished than Bill Belichick.
