An Oklahoma State University source reportedly told The Oklahoman that Walt Anderson, head of Big 12 officiating, called Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy on Saturday and apologized over an official's call that probably cost the Cowboys the game.

The play in question occurred in the fourth quarter with 29 seconds left in regulation. Texas running back Joe Bergeron appeared to have fumbled the ball before he crossed the goal line. Oklahoma State safety Daytawion Lowe reached into the scrum and recovered the ball in the end zone.

The source told The Oklahoman that head linesman Brad Edwards signaled a touchdown too soon without getting a good look at where the ball was as Bergeron surged toward the goal line. The Longhorns would go on to win the game 41-36.

Had the Bergeron touchdown been overturned, the fumble recovery would have resulted in a touchback for the Cowboys, who were leading the Longhorns 36-34.

A play can be overturned if the official review finds indisputable evidence that shows the original call was incorrect. If there is not enough evidence to overturn the call, then the call "stands."

According to The Oklahoman, the call was confirmed. Confused yet? The original call was botched, but the replay booth made the right call by not overturning it.

An officiating source told The Oklahoman that the replay booth made the right call because there was no clear recovery of the ball after the ball was loose and there wasn't indisputable evidence to overturn the touchdown call.
