Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund highlight the most exciting Champions League matchup on Wednesday's schedule.

For the Premier League champions, the match could be considered a must-win. After losing leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in its 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid two weeks ago, dropping points at the Etihad Stadium would be a disastrous result for City.

Dortmund are the two-time defending Bundesliga champions, and they have quality all over the pitch. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is one of the most underrated attacking players in world football, and if City are to keep a clean sheet, the back four must limit the shots he takes on goal.

Attacking midfielder Mario Gotze will also play an important role in this match, and if City give him too much time on the ball, the German star will create many goalscoring opportunities for players such as Lewandowski and Marco Reus to take advantage of.

If City are defeated by Dortmund on Wednesday, the club will need an almost perfect finish to the group stage in order to make the Round of 16. In a group with three other top clubs, City cannot be dropping points, especially at home, where they rarely fail to take three points in league play.

City manager Roberto Mancini needs an exceptional defensive performance from his squad to capture three points against a well-organized Dortmund team that defends very well.

City cannot afford to be sloppy, or give the ball away cheaply in this match, because Dortmund are also strong on the counterattack. The German champions are capable of getting an early goal or two and making it difficult for City to mount a comeback by dominating the possession battle.
