Dave's College Basketball Picks, March 8: Indiana at Wisconsin

dave darbySenior Analyst IMarch 7, 2009

Indiana (6-23, 1-16) at Wisconsin (18-11, 9-8)

Line: Wisconsin -17

Indiana came up short in a 64-59 against league leader Michigan State on Tuesday. The loss was their eighth in a row and 19th in the last 20 contests for the Hoosiers. Sunday’s game ends a tough regular season for Tom Crean and his young squad. Inexperience and one of the toughest schedules in the country have left Indiana struggling all season long.

Wisconsin fell to Minnesota 51-46 on Wednesday despite Marcus Landry’s four three pointers, 18 points and five boards. The loss leaves the Badgers in a three way tie for fifth place in the Big Ten standings. A loss here would look real bad to the selection committee so the Badgers can’t afford a let down.

Indiana is 12-14 against the spread including 5-8 on the road

Wisconsin is 11-15-1 against the spread including 6-9 at home

At first glance, it seems silly to be giving 17 points here, based on Wisconsin’s less than perfect home record and Indiana's ability to keep some games close, despite being outmanned.

However, Wisconsin has covered this spread a few times and Indiana has lost by 17 or more five times in Big Ten play. Wisconsin is in a seeding battle and at home while Indiana is just playing their last regular season game.

Dave’s Pick: Wisconsin -17
