Ah yes, springtime is upon us, and you can smell the fresh cut grass. Yes I know, March Madness, NBA Playoffs, NHL playoffs, and golf are all getting fired up, but who cares?
When it comes to life in Texas, there are only two seasons: football season and not football season. For the local die-hards, spring ball is the beginning of our season, and this year is no different.
There have been changes in the coaching staff at Texas. Major Applewhite has returned to coach the running backs, but the Texas faithful all believe he is returning to inherit the head job.
A new defensive coordinator was announced this offseason also: Will Muschamp from Auburn. Anybody remember the last time a former Auburn d.c. was at Texas? Think 2005 National Champs baby!
With just those goings on in the offseason, the orangebloods started preparing for what will be a good season in Austin.

Then came another strong recruiting class from Mack. While there haven't been any real practices or steady reports to go from, this class will be like all of his past classes—strong and deep.
So on March 29 when the Longhorns play their annual spring Jamboree at DKR Memorial Stadium, it will be the first day and first step toward another National Championship in Austin!
This will be Colt McCoy's third season at the helm and everybody from Laredo to Texarkana is expecting this year to be his best. Every position is going to have more depth and all of the young guys from last year who were trying to find their place in the scheme are going to be well ingrained.
Despite losing a powerful weapon at tailback with Jamaal Charles graduating, there is still Vondrell McGee and the addition of a good running back by the name of Tre Newton. The receiving corps will also be strong again this year with Jordan Shipley and Limas Sweed returning.
All in all the offensive side of the ball for the Longhorns looks good, and there will be a lot of expectations to be met this year. It's make for break for Colt because if he doesn't do it, the Austin faithful will want to see John Chiles.
The defensive side of the ball looks stout with pretty much all of the guys from last year—Babino, Sergio Kindle, and Aaron Lewis—returning. The defensive unit will look to restore itself to the dominance it had in 2005. With Muschamp making the calls, I can see Texas defense returning to one of the top units in the nation.
The Texas Longhorns looked poised to return to their glory days and take their seat atop the Big 12. Anything less than a Big 12 championship and a BCS game is going to be a failure in the eyes of the Texas faithful.

I'm actually glad that Charles is gone. He had speed, but his hands were always dangerous. I want to see what McGee can offer, and don't forget about Ogbonnaya, who quietly complimented Charles this past season.
Not sure about our receiving core this year. Colt needs to step up big, and the whole unit looked downgraded last season when Sweed went out with injury. It might be tough next year, but I guess Orange and White game will be our first indication.

I'm hoping for the best. But everything great that we see between now and the first game won't matter. It's what they do when the season gets going.
