If you have a current gen console [PS3 or XBox 360], really enjoy basketball and want to start getting into some serious hoops action on your own or with some friends, perhaps you should consider 2K Sports' new release, NBA 2K13.
Some of the many added features that are getting sensational feedback include the new Shoe Creator, wherein you can design your own Nike shoes and send the design to Nike to buy for yourself. There is also a new MyTeam mode, which allows you to collect cards with which you build your own team to compete with online, similar to the Madden Ultimate Team mode on EA's Madden franchise.
2K has also added more depth to the role-playing elements of the MyCareer mode (formerly known as My Player).
Additional improvements include the additions of Hall of Fame greats and 1992 Dream Team alumni, Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen. The soundtrack, which was assembled by Executive Producer Jay-Z, is stellar and the main menu pulsates to the rhythm of the music.
Popular gaming information site IGN has given this edition of NBA 2K a high rating of 9.1 out of 10. Its video review details many of the small details that have been added to this year's game that make it so good, while showing in-game footage.
Some of the very few negatives, as pointed out by IGN, include archaic and counterintuitive menus, a poorly instructed dribble stick tutorial and a celebrity all-star team [featuring pop star Justin Bieber] that unrealistically has higher ratings than professional NBA teams.
Gamespot has given NBA 2K13 rating of 8.5 out of 10.
Metacritic has given it a rating of 92 out of 100.
CBS News reporter, Nunzio Ingrassia, gave the game a glowing review, calling 2K13 the zenith of the franchise.
Even 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose is getting in on the action, hosting his own NBA 2K13 release party.

Game Informer writer, Matt Bertz, originally withheld his NBA 2K13 review due to a server-related bug that prevented games played in The Association and the MyCareer modes from saving user progress. He has since reported in an update that Visual Concepts has corrected the bug and has released his review.
He gives the game a 8.75 out of 10.
His biggest complaint is regarding the lack of multiplayer online MyPlayer playability stating:
"NBA 2K13 lacks a dedicated player vs. player league like NHL’s EASHL (a major missing piece for a sport that's perfect for this kind of mode), but at least you can play three-on-three pickup matches on the blacktop with your MyPlayer."
Let me know in the comments if you have experienced the server bug that prevented the game from saving (or any other bug) and whether the update has corrected the problem for you.
Otherwise, what is your overall impression of the game?
