Dave's College Basketball Picks, March 7: Michigan at Minnesota

dave darbySenior Analyst IMarch 6, 2009

Michigan (18-12, 8-9) at Minnesota (21-8, 9-8)

Line: Minnesota -3.5

Michigan fell to Wisconsin 60-55 on Sunday. A much improved DeShawn Sims (17 points, seven boards) and Manny Harris (15 points, eight boards) led the way for the Wolverines. They were the only two in double figure scoring for Michigan. Michigan won the first match up between these two teams 74-62 back on February 19.

Minnesota also played Wisconsin in their last game and came out on top 51-46. This was another Badger late game meltdown that allowed the Gophers to come back from five points down with a couple minutes to go. Give some credit to Minnesota as well, as their deep bench allowed for some late game substitutions that worked out well. Minnesota is in a three way tie for fifth and a win here is big for their tourney hopes.

Michigan is 14-10-1 against the spread including 4-7-1 on the road

Minnesota is 12-12 against the spread including 8-5 at home

Minnesota has been very strong at home this season and Michigan has struggled a great deal on the road. Minnesota has enough depth to wear down Sims and the motivation factor favors the Gophers.

Dave’s Pick: Minnesota -3.5
