College Basketball, Davidson Basketball, Bracketbreaker Challenge

Davidson is led by Stephen Curry. The 6-1 guard is the son of legendary NBA 3-point shooter Dale Curry who had a prolific 16 year NBA career. Young Stephen wanted to follow his dad’s foot steps and play at Virginia Tech.

But guess what? Seth Greenberg didn’t think he was worthy of a scholarship. Instead, he generously offered young Curry a chance to walk-on.

Well Seth, you can watch Stephen, that is Mr. Curry to you lead his puny little Wildcats to the Sweet 16!

Curry was second only to some kid at Texas (a Mr. Kevin Durant) last year in Freshman scoring. He led his team to the NCAA and the ‘Cats lost to the Terps as a 13 seed. Curry averaged 22 points per game this season.

The Wildcats are coached by Bob McKillop who is the all-time winningest coach in Southern Conference history. His veteran 2006 team lost to Ohio State after leading at the half. Despite losing seven seniors off that team, his inexperienced team made the Dance again in 2007 and played Maryland tough until the waning minutes.

This years squad lost tough road games to UNC, Duke and UCLA, but comes into the Tournament with a 22 game winning streak.

McKillop's squad should benefit from the 2006 and 2007 experience.

  1. hats off to you and your prediction.
with the hoyas in the way i wouldnt think this would be possible

  2. Great prediction Landis. I never thought they'd get past Georgetown.

  3. Just to clear up some facts from your lack of research... Tech had only 2 schollies available in 2006 and they were both taken early. Seth Greenberg offered Curry a schollie if he would walk-on his first year and redshirt behind Jamon Gordon and Zabian Dowdell (which is more than any other major conference school offered). Besides, it's not like his dad couldnt' afford to pay the tuition for one year (besides Stephen is a bit light and could have used the year to put on a little weight... he was 5-11 and 140 during his senior year). Curry didn't want to sit a year and decided to play at Davidson who was glad to get him and would start him as soon as he walked on campus. I for one am extreemely happy for the kid and look forward to many more exciting games. Sure, I would have loved to have him play at Tech, but sometimes things dont' work out like you want... like the fact that one of the recruits who took the 2 schollies for Tech that year didn't qualify and won't ever play at Tech. Turns out Stephen could have played his freshman year...

  4. you are right about Tech having only 2 scholies..I didn't note that and several other factors partially ijn order to keep the artilcle brief and to add some punch.

  5. For Davidson to come back against Georgetown is unbelievable. What a great game to watch. Great call with your article.

Best sign held by a fan: "Davidson's is this year's Davidson."

  6. Correction: "Davidson is this year's Davidson."

  7. The badgers just got rocked. Even after the whole week to get ready for Curry, they had no chance. Nice Work Davidson!

  8. Another great game.

    Curry is just plain nasty.

  9. Great prediction, had them in the elite eight in my bracket, though I was still rooting for them against Kansas; great game, great season. Curry is coming back next year, so that bodes well, but Davidson will have to find a way to replace Richards, the country's leading assist-man.
