"September is just the beginning."
Barclays Center signs and banners all over New York promise good things are coming to Brooklyn. Jay-Z's opening of the new billion-dollar arena Friday showed off a fashionable, high-tech future for both concert enthusiasts and Nets fans.
Top-level pro sports are back in the borough for the first time in 55 years, and the newest NBA uniform was unveiled Friday...right on Jay-Z's back.

Magic Johnson's an LA guy, but he believes the NYC rivalry between the Nets and Knicks will be on par with Lakers-Clippers from Day 1. That's the way the Nets see it, too—that's why they requested the NBA give them the Knicks at Barclays Center November 1st.
Opening night at Brooklyn's new arena created a buzz that felt equal to a Madison Square Garden atmosphere. But Jay-Z kept the show focused on his borough. He celebrated Brooklyn in every way, from his jersey to his shout-outs to his Biggie Smalls tribute.
Fans had few criticisms of the arena. The interior is classy and gorgeous, but the rusty exterior is a bold choice that split opinions. Detractors believe the arena looks much better at night, when you see lights instead of rust. Opening night ticket-holders had split opinions on Jay-Z's performance as well, with negative responses about the lack of cameos and special guests. (Big Daddy Kane took the stage, but fans who shelled out hundreds were hoping for Beyonce and Kanye...remember, there are still seven more nights to come.)
For Brooklyn Nets fans, the biggest guest appearance was the new uniform.
"BROOKLYN" is the simple message across the road uniform Jay-Z wore on stage to lift the lid at Barclays Center. "BROOKLYN" is the only word across the front of the home uniform as well.
"Nets" are not the brand this team is selling. That's merely a stapled-on name for fans to grow into.
Jerseys went on sale in the team shop at midnight and are now available for the NBA's newest fanbase.
The uniform design is simple, with herringbone tape running down the sides (to match the herringbone pattern of the hardwood on the Nets' home floor). The Nets Shop at Barclays Center opened Monday. It's the first team store in Nets franchise history.
