FC Barcelona is in first place in the 2012-2013 La Liga BBVA Tables, and La Blaugrana is participating in the Group G UEFA Champions League matches against Benfica, Celtic and Spartak Moscow.

The thought of fan preference for La Liga or the UEFA Champions League (UCL) inspired an article. The purpose was to gauge their preference for a Barca victory in either tournament.

Unfortunately, there was an inability to gauge the fans' preference for such a victory. The first reason was that the majority of fans questioned did not want to state their preference.

The second reason was that the fans questioned wanted Barca to win La Liga and the UCL. Since there were no responses from supporters known to me, a decision was made to take another route.

The decision was to express a personal preference as a Barca fan for La Liga or the UCL. It would be great if FC Barcelona were to win the current UCL and La Liga season.

The reasons are based in the participation of Barca in both tournaments.

UEFA Champions League

La Blaugrana has won the UEFA Champions League trophy four times. The last time was when Barca defeated Manchester United at Wembley in 2011.

It was one of the greatest moments to see Barca win the trophy at that time. While Barca finished the 2011-2012 UCL at the semifinals, there was one historic moment.

Lionel Messi's feat of scoring five goals against Bayer Leverkusen last March is an example. The current UCL season is great for Barca.

Barca was able to leave Benfica scoreless when both teams faced each other. Barca has the possibility of winning the UCL if it continues its current trend.

La Liga

FC Barcelona has a remarkable presence in La Liga. Lionel Messi broke Gerhard Muller's record of most goals scored during a season.

Messi scored his 68th goal during the 2011-2012 La Liga match between Barca and Malaga. FC Barcelona currently remains in first place in the 2012-2013 La Liga tables.

The possibilities for Barca to win the La Liga trophy are great. The only inconvenience is Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique's injuries.

I do not have a personal preference for a Barca victory in the UCL or La Liga. Both tournaments have equal importance for this Barca supporter.

The UCL and La Liga were meant to be taken seriously by the clubs involved. Unless there is a loss in one of the tournaments, Barca must strive to win the UCL and La Liga.

My thanks to the B/R readers for the time spent in reading this article.
