Cody Ransom Cannot Be the Answer for the New York Yankees

Perry ArnoldSenior Analyst IMarch 6, 2009

Cody Ransom cannot be the answer for the New York Yankees.

He is 33 years old. He has played 11 seasons in the minor leagues. His lifetime batting average in the minors is .242. IN THE MINORS! He has an on-base percentage of only .322 and an OPS of .748.

He has hit a total of 162 home runs in 11 seasons—an average of 14 per year.

If Alex Rodriguez is out for any extended period of time, Brian Cashman must find another player for third base in the Bronx.

Take a good look at the picture above. Do you think any pitcher in the American League is going to fear facing this guy who will be hitting ninth for New York. And with Ransom hitting ninth and Jose Molina hitting eighth, that means that Brett Gardner will be your No. 7 hitter.

Brett Gardner hitting in the seven hole instead of Posada or Nady. That will occur in about 50-60 games this year.

The bottom third will be Gardner, Molina, and Ransom. Can you spell AUTOMATIC OUTS?
